Vashon Update September 11th
Foundation Demolition
This week it was determined that the existing foundation was not reusable. The existing footing was smaller than anticipated, it showed signs of failure, and there was no steel reinforcement where required. The Project architect came out to review what we found, and he agreed it should be replaced.
We contacted our structural engineer and Geotech engineer and they are working on plan revisions!
We apologize for the increased demolition timeline.
For the week ahead we plan on having our surveyor onsite tomorrow to provide staking which will allow us to dig the new foundation at locations indicated on the plans. We have our Geotech engineer scheduled to come out to the site to confirm that the soils meet the bearing pressure required for the new foundation and then the following week we will start to set up the concrete foundation!
The demolition of the old slab and fireplace will continue after the Labor Day holiday. We will have trucks hauling away the materials and same saw cutting of the foundation wall.
